When I visit a new place, I usually follow the expected routine: I read the tourist guide, try to show polite interest, and snap a few cheesy pix. However, I soon start looking for “my subjects” and “my compositions” because they quickly disclose another dimension, often very different from the official presentation… When I later develop the images in my darkroom, I see the true story, and it makes my memories much more rewarding. What I also find fascinating (if not shocking) is that even the locals are rarely aware of the “other reality”! Yet, life goes on, and nobody really cares.
