The Inuit people have been fighting for years to regain their sovereignty. Greenland is an island, so the Danish government didn't have to set it up as a "reserve", but as with many First Nations peoples living in territories demolished by settlers, the problems of alcohol and the destruction of their cultural heritage, territory and identity have created a great deal of suffering and distress among the inhabitants of these places, often ignored by our voracious societies. Greenland is one of the countries in the world where the percentage of young people committing suicide is highest.
