"My Mother's Tender Script" captures Middle Eastern women's stories through the lens of my illiterate mother's journey. Using the 'Resino-Pigmentype' light-sensitive technique, I blend her archival photo with drawings and handwritten notes from her phone notebooks, adding texture and depth. Inspired by her habit of etching words into memory through repetition, her image recurs in most of the series, highlighting diverse script details. This project reflects her longing for connection, especially with my father, honors her legacy, addresses Yemeni illiteracy, and advocates for societal change.
