ROCK SAFARI is a large format analog study of rock outcroppings illuminated by a high-powered, long-range flashlight. These formations are selectively painted with light during exposures on 4x5 color negative that range from 8 to 45 minutes. Irving shoots in remote locations only accessible in off-roading vehicles to scan the landscape with her tactical flashlight, a process reminiscent of catching an animal's eyeshine in the dark while on safari.
