Captured over Georgian Bay from the summer to winter solstice of 2023, this solargraph records 183 sunsets in a single long-exposure image. Using a homemade pinhole camera and light-sensitive black and white photo paper, it traces the sun’s path across the sky, shaped by Earth’s orbit and tilt, with intermittent interruptions from cloud cover. The colors emerge from the paper’s reactions to extreme exposure, humidity, and temperature fluctuations. It reveals patterns that result from forces that govern the rhythm of all things but would otherwise remain hidden outside our everyday awareness.
