Black and white silver photo series taken in the streets of Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city with over 22 million inhabitants. Lagos City is a metropolitan city in southwest Nigeria (a West African country on the Gulf of Guinea). All photos were taken in 2024 in different parts of the city. Lagos is considered a high-risk area for strangers on the streets. The locals use an expression when they encounter a person with white skin: “Oyinbo”. I heard this word several times a day, for me it marks the astonishment of the natives because I was the only white person and it is a mark of sympathy.
