Views from Balanced Rock in Arches National Park as the Earth spirals through the night sky. This photograph is taken on a single frame of a 35mm black-and-white negative. Digital photographers can stack hundreds or even thousands of images together in Photoshop to produce these kinds of results, but I have always wondered if it would be possible to photograph star trails on film without compositing - using purely analog methods. I was able to accomplish this with a 30 minute long exposure, capturing the otherworldly feel of the American desert at night.
