I am a photographer and my congenital osteoarthritis of the knee has worsened over the years of shooting. I had a hip replacement in 2022. My femur was amputated and supported by a metal attachment. Due to the pain caused by my life as a photographer and the surgery, I was naked in the hospital room before and after the surgery and documented the procedure by taking selfies. The camera was an OM-2 that my father had bought to document the day I was born. The camera that documented my growth also documented this surgery. (The first picture is the shutter of dear “R.M.”).
