Since 1999, I have been exploring the photographic cold exposure and development of the Printogram technique. Through various chemicals, it is possible for impressions of, for example, hand lines to appear in photographic paper and become visible as touch marks. The skin’s cellular structures – the lines, intersections and scabs that make each person unique and unmistakable – indeed, that bear witness to the irreplaceable ‘I’ – are revealed in the printograms, and other forms emerge in the resulting overlays: tree forks, leaves, grasses… Is this a testament to the very essence of what we are?
