Visiting a place on the planet without knowing what to expect leads to surprises. If that country is Ecuador, it leads not only to surprise but to absolute fascination. The center of the world gave me not only different faces in my portraits than I was used to, but also a different way of looking at the camera, one that in Europe had years ago and that has disappeared. This anthropological essay shows us how, in such a globalized world, the most innocent and curious gaze gives meaning to a type of photography that is increasingly scarce and valuable.
