Alas, There Is Nothing Within

    Bronze Winner in Human/Selfie

'Alas, There Is Nothing Within' is an analog self-portrait series, in which the body is reduced to a faceless, dark, abstract mass lingering within emotionally vacant, banal landscapes. The series embodies profound emotional burnout: the body is present but the self feels absent. Through the decontextualization of my own body, the work gives form to a painful inner emptiness, drawing on bodily abstraction, the radical use of the body, and the quiet presence of mortality. Photographed on 35mm Kodak Gold film using a Minolta X-300.
