Dire Straits performed a legendary outdoor concert in Cairns on April 4, 1986, as part of their Brothers in Arms world tour. The weather caused havoc. Tropical rains swept the stage throughout, completely drenching the instruments, equipment and the band members. A rain filled plastic tarp over the stage broke swamping speakers and electronics, a keyboard shorted out and a piano was destroyed. Despite this, the band persevered, even changing the music set to include a rendition of “Singing the the Rain’. This image I made of Mark Knopfler (left) and Jack Sonni (right) was published widely.
