Varanasi is one of the holiest cities in India. Locals often say it is older than history itself, and as a visitor, you can genuinely feel that sense of timelessness. According to Hindu belief, this is where the cycle of Samsara, the endless process of death and rebirth can come to an end if one is cremated on the banks of the Ganges. Needless to say, it is an intense and deeply spiritual place. I visited during one of India's largest religious celebrations: Holi, the Festival of Colors.
