This is a study of a Black community in Jamaica, NY, during the 70s, 80s & 90’s, that explores the results of resilience, resistance & the tenacity of Black people’s ability to thrive, in spite of the ancestral stain of enslavement under the gaze of white supremacy. It exemplifies why homage is paid to the ancestors survival of the Middle Passage and the Great Migration, by continuing to live, love, create, educate, build culturally & spiritually...while cherishing the gifts of Black Joy! Yet it also implies a universal commonality with many communities who share similar experiences.
