As a Chinese American, I've always felt that San Francisco's Chinatown exists as its own self-contained world, with its own language, culture, and rhythms. Crossing into it feels like stepping through an invisible barrier separating it from the West. Many residents spend their entire lives within these few blocks. Yet it is this very community that has quietly preserved Chinese culture on Western soil, keeping its traditions, language, and identity alive for generations.
