On Marajó Island, across the river from my hometown of Belém, in the Brazilian Amazon, lies "Sky Beach", a surreal place where river and ocean meet. To me, it has always felt extraterrestrial: enchanted, heavenly, quiet, and ruled by its own rhythm. But I also always felt that most pictures of it failed to capture its magic. So I decided to create something different and photograph its textures and fleeting atmosphere in a way that emphasized its otherworldly character: I took my Canon AE1, loaded with Lomo Turquoise 35mm film, and photographed an afternoon on this distant yet familiar planet.
