In the Venetian lagoon, brightly painted façades emerged as a practical response to fog and diffused light, later evolving into a powerful marker of identity and community heritage. In Burano, this vernacular tradition now faces tensions between authenticity and tourism, as municipal regulations preserve its visual character while social media and mass tourism transform it into an iconic image. The photographic project explores the island’s quieter, less visible spaces, revealing a more intimate and authentic landscape where color remains a lived experience rather than merely a spectacle.
