Beaches are the world’s largest open theatres. Every day, vast gatherings of people orient themselves toward the ocean-watching it, responding to it, and interacting with it from the land. These photographs are taken at various beaches and river ghats across India, spaces where people assemble for different purposes and rituals. People build houses around the beaches, to experience its artform on a daily basis, but it comes at a heavier cost. Here, the rhythmic movement of water meets the still, textured land, creating a stage that allows for both observation and performance. Shot on old K5222
