Mariia Shekhireva is an Estonian-born, Berlin-based film photographer. For Mariia, film photography is an act of surrender to time and chance. Each exposure becomes a lasting record of light itself - unedited, unfiltered, and unique; a memory of light leaving its trace as a chemical reaction on a piece of film. She likes to explore the sense of balance and symmetry in the world, the ephemerality of dreams, magical realism, and shadows - both as physical phenomena and as reflections of the unconscious.
