Traces On The Snow

Vorkuta is a city beyond the Arctic Circle with a complex, layered history. Once a major coal mining center, it is now losing population as mine closures and the outflow of residents reshape the city and surrounding settlements. Wandering through abandoned homes, I collect traces of the past. Using photographs from different periods, transferred onto Polaroid emulsion, and embroidering ornaments drawn from the cultural heritage of ethnic groups who came to Vorkuta over time, I connect times, allowing disappearing images to re-emerge and enter into dialogue with the collective memory.
