This series originated from the chance discovery of a burnt doll bearing the inscription "ILVA KILLS" on its chest. It had been left by an unknown person on the very wall—facing the ILVA steel plant—where it was photographed; since 1965, toxic waste from the facility has been killing children and local residents by causing cancer, in a city condemned to this profound suffering.
